Thank a Super Day / Thank a Greenkeeper is an international initiative organised by major turf management bodies like BIGGA (British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association), ASTMA (Australian Sports Turf Managers Association), and GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America). It’s held annually to recognize the hard work and dedication of greenkeepers and course superintendents, who maintain the quality and sustainability of golf courses. This day emphasizes their contribution to the sport and encourages clubs, players, and the public to show appreciation.
For 2024, the event will be held on September 10th. Social media campaigns using hashtags like #ThankAGreenkeeper and #ThankASuper are encouraged to spread the message globally. In 2023, social media outreach reached over 14 million followers, emphasizing the massive scope of the campaign. The initiative also promotes professional development, better working conditions, and recognition of greenkeepers’ efforts year-round, not just on the special day.
Tru-Turf’s Involvement
At Tru-Turf, we are taking a step further this Thank a Super Day. In collaboration with Michael Knoll, Superintendent at Del Monte Golf Course, we are amplifying the voices of greenkeepers through several initiatives:
- Super Series Podcast (Chapter 8): Michael Knoll shares his personal journey of mental health and sobriety, offering hope and solidarity to greenkeepers worldwide. The podcast will be released on September 10th to coincide with Thank a Super Day.
- GreenKeeping Magazine Feature: Michael Knoll’s story is featured in the September 2024 issue of GreenKeeping Magazine, highlighting the challenges and resilience of greenkeepers. Read the feature here.
If you would like to collaborate on sharing this initiative, feel free to reach out to us at media@truturf.com.
By engaging in this campaign, we’re building a network of support for greenkeepers and promoting mental health awareness within the turf industry and beyond.
